F1RST Unmanned System Hangar: A Premier Training Facility for Public Safety Drones

The Florida Forensic Institute for Research, Security, and Tactics (F1RST) is proud of the continued success of our state-of-the-art Unmanned System Hangar, located at our Land O’ Lakes campus at 10371 Charles Bo Harrison Way. This cutting-edge facility has been operational for over a year and has become a central hub for advanced training and development in unmanned systems, catering to professionals in the public safety drone and robotics industry.

F1RST Hangar Inside

Our two-story large indoor hangar features a reconfigurable tactical training house, ideal for comprehensive training with drones, robotics, and other unmanned systems as well as drone/robotic/swat/K9 integration. The facility is equipped with an advanced IP-based camera system that streams real-time overhead views from the shoot house onto a large projector screen, enhancing situational awareness and training efficiency. The impressive two-story, 75-foot-wide hangar garage door allows users to seamlessly transition from indoor to outdoor environments.

Outside the hangar, trainees can utilize various training environments, including two FEMA-rated rubble piles, a human remains field, and a diverse array of infrastructure layouts that mimic both urban and rural settings. These environments provide a realistic and challenging backdrop for honing skills essential for public safety operations.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office, along with a variety of other local agencies, regularly trains at the F1RST Unmanned System Hangar. This facility has become a cornerstone for first responders, offering specialized training sessions designed to improve operational effectiveness and safety. The F1RST team frequently hosts training events at this location, ensuring that first responders are equipped with the latest knowledge and techniques in unmanned systems.


The F1RST Unmanned System Hangar also hosts a Skydio dock, dedicated to the test and evaluation of Skydio drones, ensuring that trainees are exposed to the latest advancements in drone technology. Additionally, the facility boasts two NOMAD mobile communication and drone command vehicles, equipped with cutting-edge technology from our partners at Skydio and LiveU, offering unparalleled capabilities in mobile drone operations and communications/streaming.
